Monford is one of the thousands of out-of-work fisherman whose lives was devastated by the government’s ban on cod fishing. He sold his fishing licence to another fishermen because he couldn’t make enough money fishing other species. Now he looks after his son while his wife works at the local post office and provides for the family.
For generations, families in fishing communities have survived of the bounties of the ocean. The family trade was passed from father to son. Now it is a way of life that has all but vanished. With the government ban there are no jobs, and only a few fishing communities remain.
